Porcelain’s reputation as a difficult medium for thrower is only slightly exaggerated. This workshop will enable intermediate to advanced level potters enhance their sills and ease the frustration: Basic cylindrical, spherical and bowl forms will be demonstrated and practiced, with individual coaching. Lids, spouts and complex forms will be addressed as well as altered forms such as oval baker and squared bowls. Materials about porcelain body formulation and appropriate glazes will be presented. Clay and bisque firing will be included.

Students will work in oil from the model, focusing on drawing, composition, color and value. The underlying abstract relationships created by the use of shape and color is significant elements of a painting and students will be encouraged to think in these terms. Individual attention will be given to all students. Included is a slide presentation, discussion of the artist’s work, demonstrations in oil, plus a demonstration of the process of doing monotypes without the use of a press.
