Youth Open Art Studios
Youth Open Art Studio is a free program for teens, ages 13 to 17 that provides a diverse, challenging and productive environment in the arts.  Young adults can build their portfolio, meet new friends, work with a variety of art mediums or just have fun creating art.  Two Friday evenings each month a different professional artist/ educator will introduce a new art form.  Teens receive focused instruction and get a chance to explore a range of different mediums and techniques.  All levels of experience are welcome!!  Materials and refreshments will be provided.  Please contact the school of art via email ( school@silvermineart.org ) to register- with the dates you will attend. Each class is Limited to 20 Students.

Painting with Egg Tempera
instructor: Nomi Silverman
Egg tempera is an old form of painting that is equally current today.
It is one of the most versatile means around, allowing for brilliant translucency and opacity, great detail and bold sweeps of color.
Using still life, learn to use this wonderful medium to create paintings that have good strong color and unsurpassed luminosity.

Fusion Felting

Discover the magical process of felting!
Participants will be introduced to the materials, techniques and limitless possibilities of felting.
Throughout the sessions we will play with form, function, color, surface, texture and adornment.
A variety of "wet-felting" techniques will be explored.
Take home a one-of a kind felted work of art to adorn yourself or your living space.

Outside the Box: Drawing & Painting & Collage
Mark Freedman
Focus on enhancing your creativity.
Exploration of basic collage methods and materials will be the foundation of your painting.
Clean out your closets or use natural objects to cut, tear and paste to create your "artistic voice."
Painting can be abstract or realistic while working with water based medium.

Build an Art Installation

Have you ever fantasized about walking through a painting?
Or of being utterly enveloped in room sized artwork?
That is what an art installation is all about.
Come work collaboratively on building "environments" with experimental and unexpected material and open yourself up to new possibilities and art-making directions.
This workshop with transform the way you make and look at art!

Portrait Drawing
Justin Wiest
Participants will learn the basics of developing a successful portrait while working with only drawing materials and a live model.
Demonstrations and techniques will help participants to see proportions, plans, and values of the human head.
 
 Symphony in Clay & Book Signing
Sculptor & Author: Peter Rubino

Combining art and music “Symphony in Clay” is a high-energy performance piece by author, teacher and Master Sculptor, Peter Rubino. Mr. Rubino will transform a monumental 250 lbs. of clay into a bigger than life size portrait of Beethoven while working with the famous composer music in 20 minutes. After the performance Mr. Rubino will be available to answer questions and sign books, “The Portrait in Clay” and “Sculpting the Figure in Clay”. Both books will be available to purchase at the event.
 
Peter Rubino has published two comprehensive instructional books “The Portrait in Clay” and “Sculpting the Figure in Clay” published by Random House and are distributed world wide and translated into Russian and Chinese. He has achieved international acclaim with numerous private and corporate commissions. Mr. Rubino has been teaching sculpture for over 35 years at various institutions throughout the United States and Europe.
