Silvermine Art Camp offers children the opportunity to experience the arts, have fun creating, challenge their imaginations and meet new friends. Your child is invited to join us for one or more weeks of ART!
 
(Age groups are strictly enforced.)    
 
 
Junior Art Camp (Ages: 5-8)

 Art Camp is a place where young artists engage with imagination, real-life associations, reflection and visual transformation through making sense of material. In stretching, smudging and squeezing, participants will develop knowledge of a variety of artistic techniques. Weekly exploration may include mixed-media clay, sculpture and the re-exploration of two-dimensional surfaces. Students may engage in wire, wood, canvas, paint, charcoal, oil pastel, foam core, watercolor and more. The teacher to student ratio is approximately 1 to 4 allowing for the development of individualized artistic expression and effective dialogue. There will be some introduction to art history. Students should bring their own snack and drink from home. Please do not bring snacks that contain peanuts. The School provides all materials.

Children will stretch imaginations while strengthening drawing and painting skills. Discover the fundamentals of drawing and painting and their relationship to each other with emphasis on individual perception and exploration. Learn traditional techniques such as proportions through the use of a variety of media, which may include pencil, pastels, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic and tempera. Young artists will discover new concepts and master basic skills while gaining confidence, pride, and self-discipline through their efforts. Students should bring their own snack and drink from home. Please do not bring snacks that contain peanuts. The School provides all materials.

Oil Painting Workshop (Ages: 12 to 15)

August 9 through August 12                              

Teens will learn about the beautiful and unique features of painting with oils. We will learn about setting up a palette, color mixing, mediums, care of materials and safety. Students will be guided through the process of creating a landscape painting. Composition and perspective will be taught as we work both in the studio and plein-air. Students should bring their own lunch. Please do not bring snacks that contain nuts. The School provides all materials.           

 

Make Music Out of Mud (Ages: 13-17)

Three-Day Workshop – Tuesday through Thursday       $250

In this three-day workshop you will learn to form clay into musical instruments you can use. We will use hand building techniques to form whistles, drums and more. Then we will paint them with our own designs using colored slips. Once fired, they will be ready to use. . Please do not bring snacks that contain nuts. Exploration of Artistic Mediums Workshop (Ages: 12-16)

This five-day workshop will explore various mediums introducing students to a new way of working or reinforce the skills already learned. We will work in a variety of mediums such as oil paint, on various surfaces, giant oil sticks, some ink and we will throw in some new watercolor techniques. Come try some new things and be amazed at what there is out there besides the simple pencil or marker. Students should bring a light snack. Please do not bring snacks that contain nuts. The School provides all materials.

 

Anime Animight Workshop (Ages: 12-15)

Spend the week developing your anime creations into a more finished piece of art. Students will learn perspective, motion, foreshortening, composition; use of color and figure proportion. A strong emphasis will be placed on creating a totally unique character based on the student’s own ideas. Take your creations from simple marker drawings to elaborate finished works of art. Students should bring a light snack. Please do not bring snacks that contain nuts. The School will provide all materials.

 

Printmaking Workshop (Ages: 12 to 15)

Students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of printmaking techniques including monoprint, paper litho, collagraph and solar plate. We will work on paper, cloth and stone with individual guidance as students explore the creative process of printmaking. Students should bring their own lunch. Please do not bring snacks that contain nuts. The School provides all materials.

 

Portrait/Figure Drawing & Painting Workshop (Ages: 13 to 17)

One-Week Sessions – Monday through Friday

This indoor workshop will work with a clothed model exploring both the face and the full figure. Students may work with a variety of drawing and painting mediums to learn the traditional techniques such as proportion, shading and composition. Painting the Landscape in Oil (Ages: 13-17)

Students will learn to simplify the general order of a landscape and quickly capture the main components of how light changes as the sun shifts positions Students will work on at least two separate paintings and gain a greater understanding of the subtle shifts of light. Composition, drawing, color and tone as well as different approaches from varying schools in the realm of landscape painting will be discussed. Students should bring their own lunch. Youth Fashion Illustration Saturation! (Ages: 13-17)

Immerse yourself in the world of fashion by drawing, sketching and designing. It is all about exaggeration – elongated lines and extreme clothes.
