Visit our Online Gallery to search for artwork by Guild artists. Guild Membership
Membership in the Guild of Artists is selective. Because Guild members are expected to volunteer time at Silvermine, most members live within a 50 mile radius of the arts center. Guild members are selected through a peer review process. New member jury days occurs twice a year, in the spring and fall. Those interested in membership are required to bring work to Silvermine for review on jury day. This is an informal critique session led by artists for artists which meets the first Friday of every month at 7pm in the Silvermine Auditorium. No preregistration is required and it is FREE to attend! Please bring artworks in progress or at any stage of completion, or just come to listen and participate in discussion. On a quarterly basis, an outside critic will be invited and a fee will be charged to participate. A Brief History of The Knockers In the early 1900s a colony of artists settled in the Silvermine area, lured by the picturesque countryside. The artists gathered around noted sculptor Solon Borglum, whose barn was the meeting place where the artists, the so-called "Knockers Club" came to socalize, exchange ideas and critique each others' work. Eventually, the group outgrew the barn and purchased a larger one, on the present site of the Silvermine Guild Arts Center. |
