The School of Art provides year-round classes for ages 2 – 102. A distinguished faculty of artist– educators offers instruction in ceramics, digital imaging, drawing, flame working, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, wood working, silversmithing and special studies. Courses are designed for full and part-time students of all ages and levels, from beginners to professional artists. In addition to the adult program, the school features courses and workshops for children and teens throughout the year as well as family workshops for children and parents to experience art together. In the Summer we offer week long Art Studios for ages 4-12 and Teen Workshops for ages 13-17.
Throughout the year, weekend and five-day intensive workshops with visiting artists are presented. These mini-sessions provide intensive study in a brief period of time. Each year, nationally and internationally known artists are invited to Silvermine to teach these workshops.
Classes are small with an emphasis on individual development. A nurturing atmosphere prevails, unstructured enough to encourage creativity through exploration, yet disciplined to provide a solid foundation.
School facilities include painting studios with natural light, a printmaking studio, a photography classroom and darkroom, a digital lab, and a student gallery in the main school building. Ceramics, jewelry, metal and stone sculpture studios as well as a bronze casting facility are located in an adjacent building.
