Dorie Petrochko is an accomplished painter and natural science illustrator who has taught art fortwenty five years. She began her Fine Arts study at the Arts Student League in NYC and theBrackman Studios in Madison, CT. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wagner Collegein Staten Island, NY and a Master's Degree in Art Education from Southern CT State Universityin New Haven, CT. In 2007, she received Certification in Botanical and Natural ScienceIllustration from The New York Botanical Garden. Her interest in traveling and painting birds isa lifelong passion. She has volunteered at the Yale Peabody Museum Vertebrate ZoologyDivision, in Ornithology, for the past twelve years, where she frequently uses their specimens asreference for her work.Dorie is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the Don EckelberryFellowship Award for Wildlife Painting from The Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciencesand the Julia and David White Fellowship in Costa Rica. She does commissions and exhibitsher work in shows and galleries nationally, including The Bennington Gallery in Bennington,Vermont, where her work was recently selected for the 2014 State Museum of AlbanyExhibition: Focus on Nature.Currently, Dorie lectures and teaches natural science illustration at the Yale Peabody MuseumWest Campus in Orange, CT, where she is president of Connecticut Natural ScienceIllustrators and serves as Membership Chairman of the New York Chapter of the Guild ofNatural Science Illustrators.
