Artist Statement

The origins of alchemy and mysticism can be traced to the high priests philosophers of ancient Greece and Egypt. Anyone who enters this realm of spirituality finds themselves in a mesmerizing, cryptic and obscure world of symbols, codes and rich pictorial motifs. This maze can have an unnerving effect.

Yet as children, most of us have delved, with abandon, into the enchanting games of illusion, fortune telling and supernatural powers. Memories of using the "Magic 8 Ball", "Ouija" boards and mastering card tricks are universally shared childhood memories.

In this ongoing series, the artist's personal symbols are spliced with tribal and folk art elements. The paintings challenge the viewer to seek out connections and reveal their own concealed truths.
