Katherine Fleming

Founder and director of Bridge Initiative, a nonprofit that unites art and science to create public art for environmental advocacy. The organization came to fruition in 2015 after Fleming’s explorations in Antarctica enabled her to witness the jarring impacts of climate change. Fleming’s mission is to synchronize art and advocacy for a positive impact. Prior to Fleming's environmental advocacy work and the founding of Bridge Initiative, she graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City.

Exhibition

Metamorphosis: The Changing Landscape –is a juried exhibition exploring our planet's ever-evolving landscape and the profound transformations occurring. We seek works exploring the impact of climate change, urbanization, and technology on our planet's delicate ecosystems and humanity's role in shaping the world. The exhibition aims to encourage conversations about our challenges and opportunities.
Eligibility – Open to all artists, 18 years of age and older. Original artwork in any media will be considered. Giclée reproductions of original works will not be accepted. Eligible artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2021, and fall within the restrictions.
Entry Fee – $50 for up to 5 entries.

Important Dates

Entry Deadline Thursday, April 18
Notification of Finalists: Wednesday, May 1. Email and Web posting.
Finalists work received by: Saturday, May 18, 2pm
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 8, 5:30-7:30pm
Exhibit Closes: Thursday, July 11
Artwork pickup: Friday, & Saturday, July 12, 13, 10am-2pm
Return Artwork will be shipped by: Friday, July 19
Final inclusion in Metamorphosis is at the discretion of the Juror and Silvermine Galleries

Restrictions

Accepted Artwork – No artwork substitutions are allowed. No accepted entry may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition.
Wall-hung Works – May not exceed 96” in height or width, including frames. All work must be ready for hanging. Work on paper can be installed with magnets. Stretched/works on panel need not be framed. NO sawtoothhangers. Shipped work requiring glazing must use plexiglass.
Sculptures – Should not exceed 8’h x 4’w x 4’d including base. Gallery has standard size pedestals.
Installations – Installations may not stipulate altering the character of the gallery wall or floor. Artists with special installation requirements should be available to assist in the installation of their work.
Shipping– Silvermine Galleries recommends using a commercially manufactured artist's/strong box such as a StrongBox™ by Airfloat Systems, or similar brand, like Masterpak or Uline, or a FedEx Premium Art Box. Proper packaging is imperative to protect your work. Improper packaging may result in damaged, returned or unopened shipments. Strong boxes will be returned to the artists at the conclusion of the show at the artist's expense. Paid return shipping labels must be included. NO Styrofoam PEANUTS

Sales & Liability Insurance

All artwork must be for sale. A standard commission of 50% will be retained on all sales. The gallery reserves the right to negotiate up to 10% discount to secure sale of a piece. Commissions will then be based on discounted price. Price of work may not be changed after it is submitted. Silvermine Arts Center will insure all accepted work to 50% of artist’s stated retail price while in our possession. Artwork will be handled with all possible care. Work that is not picked up by July 19, 2024 is no longer insured and is left at the artist’s own risk.

Awards

Grand Prize of $1000. includes a solo Viewing Room on artnet with Silvermine Galleries, and a 1-year Guild membership. The Juror has additional awards to give at their discretion.
Benefits – Exposure on the global platform artnet, Artsy, Silvermine Galleries website and relevant social media. Accepted artists will be eligible for membership and representation by Silvermine Galleries.
