The Barn, now called Hays Gallery, originally served as both classroom and exhibition space.From the beginning, education was an important part of Guild activity. The first painting class was taught in 1924 by Robert Schmidt. Sculpture and classes for children soon followed.
For 35 cents, students could sketch from a live model and enjoy discussion
and refreshments.
